Stats: Coming into the world at 9lbs we knew Asher was a big boy and that has not changed! At his check up today the scale read 20lbs (88th percentile)...just for comparison at Chase's 1 year check he clocked in a 21lbs..so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Asher is starting to wear 12 month clothing. He measured 27 inches in length (64th percentile). It just means all the more to love and that we do. Dr was very happy with his progress and will see him again in 3 months. He did have to get 3 shots and gave out some huge screams but as soon as he was in Mummy's arms he was just fine, and big brother Chase was on hand to try and comfort Asher also.
Sleep: Things have been less than ideal in this department. We have gone from sleeping through the night to being up to every hour. I have had more sleepless nights this past month than I did when he was a newborn. We did move him into his own room a few nights and that seems to be helping. I think he was sensing when I came into our bedroom and would just cry until he got to come into bed with us...like I said he is a cuddler. Since being in his own room he sleeps until around 6am, eats and sleeps in our bed for a couple more hours. Once in our bed he will wiggle until he is snuggled up under my chin and then sleep soundlessly until Chase hops into bed with us too. We have gone from 3 naps to 2 naps, which I prefer as Asher will sleep for an hour and a half each time. This gives me a little one on one time with Chase and I can sneak in a few chores too.
Social: Asher has reached the stage where he knows if he recognizes a person or not, and for those he doesn't, they know it. Hysterical crying will ensue until said person gets out of his face. For those that he does know he is all smiles. I think Chase can get the biggest smile out of him. It melts my heart that the love between Asher and Chase is already evident. We attend a Mommy and Me class for Chase, obviously Asher tags along and he is so entranced with the teacher and other children. He will sit on the mat next to Chase and pays very close attention to the story being read or the song being sung. We have noticed the Asher doesn't do well with loud noises, whether it be Chase letting out an ear piercing scream or a loud restaurant, it ends in tears upon tears. Needless to say some restaurants have been taken off of rotation until he is a little older.
Diet: This kid can eat! We introduced solids on Valentines day (just under 5 months old) and we haven't turned back since. He is eating 3 full meals a day 4 bottles a day. We have tried a ton of fruit and veggies (a variety of squash, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, green beans, apples, bananas, pears, plums, blueberries, avocado, and peaches). There hasn't been one item he has disliked. Infact he is usually grabbing for the spoon as if he was telling me to feed him a little faster.
Skills/Milestones: Asher can sit on his own and has for a while. He has yet to roll in either direction but I think he will be skipping that and going to crawling. If he is put on his belly he will spin 360 degrees. I have noticed him a few times trying to bring his knees up under himself to crawl but he's not quite there. If I put my hands against his feet he will push off to move forward.
Asher's talking or babbling has increased dramatically and says all kinds of vowels and consonants, no mama or dada yet. He also thoroughly enjoys blowing raspberries, especially when he has food in his mouth, lucky me! Passing objects back and forth between hands and picking up smaller objects with his thumb and pointer finger are also things he has accomplished this past month.
This past month has been one of my favorite with Asher, he has become so aware of everything going on around him and is much more interactive. Hands down my favorite moment is when he grabs my cheeks with his hands and pulls his face to mine so they are touching. We have another mama's boy on our hands, and I'm not going to lie it makes this mama very happy.
